The new 1000km Endurance Race 4th – 6th
June 2009 have safely ended and we are proud to announce that we Pentagon J’s
Racing DC2 Team had completed a rigorous 181 laps to emerge a podium 3rd
in Class!
The crews from J’s Racing and William Trial had
sleepless nights before the race, working on the DC2 and setting up the DC2.
This is mainly due to the new control One Make Tires from Indonesia where we
have no tire datas.
However, day after day, the DC2 gets better setup to
provide a good and well balance DC2 for the 1000km Race as well as a trouble
free yet strong engine build by the proven mechanic, Lochi, with full Skunk2
valvetrain such that Class 1 Driver qualifying, Junichi Umemoto, managed to
clinched the 2nd fastest time in qualifying (2min40.967).
The average of all 3 Drivers qualifying time had put
our Pentagon J’s Racing DC2 Team 4th in Class.
On race day that flag off at 12pm, the weather is very
hot at over 35’c and track temperature is over 55’c causing a high heat stress
for both drivers and crews. The DC2 was running very well till the pit in lap
of the 3rd driver stint at almost 3.45pm, the power steering hose
joint broke, causing oil leak onto the tires sending the car sideways on the
pit lap.
As race continues, the steering got heavier and heavier
as the power steering pump starts to get jammed. It was a very tough and tiring
race as all drivers had to fight the very heavy steering and yet driver Umemoto
could still do a very quick 2min42sec lap times where else driver Chris and
Maeyama clock consistent lap times to the checked flag at about 8.45pm to
clinched a podium 3rd in Class!
It was a fantastic result as we had only 3 weeks to
prepare for this race! We will be back with a meaner machine next year!
